William Morrison’s sheet music for ‘Mr Meldrum’s Reel Banff’.

Scotland’s history of folk music is enlivened by a dance tune that was apparently inspired by a Meldrum man who lived in Banff during the 18th century.

Sheet music for ‘Mr Meldrum’s Reel Banff’ was included in William Morrison’s 1813 Collection of Highland Music, consisting of strathspeys, reels, marches, waltzes and slow airs for the ‘pianoforte, violin and violoncello’.

Morrison’s collection, dedicated his collection to the Right Honourable Lady Seaforth, can be accessed through the National Library of Scotland’s Glen Collection of Printed Music.
